Nonprofit Leadership and Management Graduate Steve Kappes Follows Passions to ‘Encore Career’

Steve Kappes, Zero8Hundred's Board Chair and retired United States Navy Captain, graduated this past May from the University of San Diego (USD) with a Master’s in Nonprofit Leadership and Management — and if you’re keeping track, yes, this is his second advanced degree.

“A couple of years ago, I started to think, ‘I’ve done a lot of military-related work, and that has been extremely fulfilling, but it’s a big world out there with a lot of other possibilities,’” says Kappes. “It got me thinking, ‘What else might I like to do?’”

One of his initial thoughts was to do something that continued his passion for volunteer work.

“Community service is really important to me. As I reflected on that, I thought, ‘the next move I want to make career-wise is into the nonprofit sector.’”

Zero8Hundred is one of 350 local non-profits participating in this year's San Diego Gives!

San Diego Gives 2023 is a year-round nonprofit sustainability project that culminates in a Day of Giving on Thursday, September 7 and Day of Service on Friday, September 8.

This 24-hour online fundraiser, focuses on addressing the needs of our own community. Their goal is to create a movement of local giving. When you make a donation to Zero8Hundred during San Diego Gives, know that every dollar of your investment will stay local to help transitioning veterans and their families.

General Agency Information Form

All new and past agencies must complete and update the General Agency Information Form beginning January 1 - September 29 of each new year to update our files.
